A GoDaddy Website Builder alternative where the site is yours to take

If you are here because your domain, your mailbox and your website all arrive on one bill, and you have started wondering what happens if you leave — that is the right question to be asking. Here is what opens on our side: 40 industry starting points that are working multi-page sites, 600 industry-and-style combinations that rebuild the layout rather than recolouring it, 29 scroll and cinematic sections, eleven operating modules, two languages on one site, no percentage taken from anything the site sells, and the whole thing as Next.js source. Two rows still go GoDaddy Website Builder’s way, and they are marked as such.

In the browser: Storefront $49 a month, Storefront Pro $79. On your own machine: LocalSite Studio $59 a month or $699 once. Building and previewing cost nothing and take no card, with a 7-day refund. See the full price list

The 12 rows that decide it

Every row can be checked against the sources at the bottom of this page, and 2 of them go GoDaddy Website Builder’s way. A comparison where the author wins every row is an advertisement, and you would be right to discount all of it.
What you are asking aboutWith NaratakeWith GoDaddy Website BuilderWho takes the row
What is actually inside one starting pointThe number to ask about is not 40, it is what opens. The bakery starting point is four pages: nine priced items, a custom-cake enquiry form with a photo column, and a six-image portfolio — a site that works before you have typed a word, carrying the sections that trade actually uses. All 40 open like that, drawn around what their trade puts on a page, and laying any of 15 design styles over one rebuilds the layout rather than recolouring it. The words on it are the part AI touches here, and only when you ask for it: describe the business and the panel drafts the hero, the SEO lines, the footer and the item descriptions, or rewrites the single block you right-click. It runs on your own Anthropic, OpenAI or DeepSeek key — kept in your computer’s keychain, never shipped inside a project, and billed to you by the provider at its own price. We resell no tokens and add no margin: what a draft costs is that provider’s own rate, on your own account. Also not a blank page, and we should say so plainly. GoDaddy’s own getting-started article says that when you buy a Websites + Marketing plan they ask for your business name and a short description and build a basic website from that using AI, and that the product works from themes. Changing theme later keeps your content and takes an automatic save point first, which is a kind thing to do. What arrives is a basic site and a look; the parts a trade runs on are sections you go and add one at a time.Ours
Changing the look without redoing the site40 industry starting points across 15 design styles is 600 different-looking sites before anyone touches a colour — and the count is not the part that matters. This is: a style here is a different set of bones, not a different coat of paint. Switching one rebuilds the hero composition, every page header, the type, the corner radius, the motion and the photo treatment, and palettes are picked per trade, so the same style over a bakery and over a plumber does not come out the same colour. The pages are rebuilt from the starting point and your content comes with it: the menu and its prices, the reviews, the staff, the class timetable, the property listings, the coupon codes and the opening hours all carry over, along with the business itself — name, phone, email, address, logo, social links. What does not: the headings and body text you edited inside a block, and the photos you swapped in, go back to the template’s. A single undo puts the whole switch back. So a second direction is something you look at, with the headings you rewrote to put back — not a catalogue to type in again.GoDaddy documents changing your theme, and says the content you already added is kept, with an automatic save point taken first — credit where it is due; a save point before a change is a decent thing to do. What differs is how much a change actually changes. A new theme there changes the look; the page is still the sections you added, each keeping whichever of its several layouts you picked. Ours rebuilds the composition itself — the hero, every page header, the type, the radius, the motion, the photo treatment — and does it 600 ways.Ours
The parts that actually run the businessEleven of them, in the box: online ordering, table reservations, appointment booking by staff member and time slot, a class timetable, an order tracker, property listings, quote requests, a coupon banner and three menu layouts. Nothing to install, no second subscription behind any of them, and every record lands in the site’s own back office. Where they run is a plan boundary: ordering and reservations go live on Storefront Pro, $79 a month or $758 a year; Storefront, $49 a month or $468 a year, builds and previews them.Appointments are theirs, and the booking row above gives them that. The rest of this list leaves the product. The GoDaddy Help Center documents restaurant reservations as an OpenTable section: you supply an existing OpenTable Restaurant ID, or create an account and wait up to two business days. Their own restaurant guide sends online ordering to ChowNow the same way, by restaurant ID. The built-in Menu or Price List section carries item name, price and description — a menu to read, not a till.Ours
Motion on the pageMotion is finished when it arrives: 29 scroll and cinematic sections, among them video that scrubs as you scroll, parallax, a scroll-told story, a horizontal scroller, a film strip, a cinema reel, a marquee, an image that reveals as it comes up, a scroll progress bar. A 3D hero and an animated background ship alongside them. One attribute sets the intensity for the whole site — subtle, lively, cinematic, or off altogether — across ten entrance signatures: rise, fade, slide, zoom, blur, clip, flip, letterbox, iris and swing. Change your mind once and every section follows. The words are readable with JavaScript off, and a visitor whose system asks for less motion gets the site holding still. What GoDaddy’s documentation shows moving is the cover media, which has a Parallax Scrolling toggle — and the same page says parallax will only appear on the published site and will not show on phones or tablets. Writing your own is bounded too: the Help Center says you can add custom HTML, CSS and JavaScript in a custom HTML section, but that you will not be able to apply site-wide or more complex code.Ours
What is in the editor before you install anything111 components and 15 design styles, every one of them in the editor and included. There is no marketplace because there is nothing to go and fetch: menus, galleries, pricing tables, FAQs, enquiry forms with a photo column, maps, testimonials, ordering, booking, timetables and the back office that receives them are the same box, at no extra charge and with nobody else’s terms of service attached to your site. A design style rebuilds the layout rather than recolouring it, so changing the whole look is a choice, not a rebuild.Pages are built from sections you add from a list — GoDaddy names .pdf viewers, price lists and restaurant menus, real estate listings, SoundCloud tracks, YouTube links, online appointments and contact among them. The documented ceilings are worth knowing before you plan a long page: up to 20 sections per page, with more pages given as the answer, no extra headers or footers, and some sections allowed only once per site. Layout is chosen rather than drawn — most sections have several layouts and you scroll through and select one. Site-wide, what the design controls are heading, font and background colour, two font styles and two button styles.Ours
How far you can push one elementDragging a block onto a page is the doorway, not the product. What is behind it: 44 style properties on any single node, each of them settable four times over — desktop, tablet, mobile, and again for hover — which is 176 adjustable points on one element. Vertical CJK text for a hanging-scroll heading, a neon glow in a colour you choose, frosted-glass backdrop blur, a two-colour gradient at the angle you set, a tilt up to 45° either way, sticky positioning, z-index, and a per-node entrance of fade, slide, zoom or blur. All of it is a control in the panel — no CSS to write and no layout system to learn first — and all of it survives the export as ordinary style props in the project you hand over.Chosen rather than drawn. The Help Center describes picking one of the several layouts most sections offer, and gives the site-wide design controls as the heading, the font and the background colour, two font styles and two button styles. Where that does not reach, the documented route is a custom HTML section — and the same article says you will not be able to apply site-wide or more complex code.Ours
Running the business in two languagesA checkbox, not a project. English plus Chinese or Spanish, one site, with a real language switch rendered in the navigation and both languages living in the same file. No third-party app, no word quota, no price per language, and nothing extra on either plan.We could find nothing in the Websites + Marketing documentation saying either way on Aug 26, 2026, so we are not going to tell you it cannot be done. What GoDaddy does publish is a guide to building a multilingual website, and the route it gives is a WordPress plugin such as Polylang — a different product in their catalog, with its own hosting.Ours
Who takes a cut of what the site sellsNot us. We take no percentage of an order, a booking or a deposit, on any plan, ever — the subscription is the whole bill we send. The card is charged through your own Stripe account: your keys, Stripe’s own processing rate billed by Stripe, and the money arrives in your account without passing through us. One evening of setup with your own Stripe keys, and from then on nothing sits between the card your customer taps and your own bank account.GoDaddy Payments is a processor and prices like one: a published rate card with a different percentage for card present, e-commerce, card invoicing and manual entry, taken out of the payout rather than invoiced to you. We are not reprinting those numbers here — a rate card is theirs to change and ours to get wrong — so read the current one on their own page, linked below. Two things are worth finding while you are in it: their Rate Saver programme, which lowers those rates, is stated as not available for Websites + Marketing online store or online appointments transactions; and their upgrade article says that if you want to set up payments for online appointments, you will want to upgrade to the Premium plan.Ours
Getting the site out as codeThis is the reason the desktop line exists. LocalSite Studio writes the finished site into a folder as an ordinary Next.js project — pages, styles, scripts, images — that you can read, change and host anywhere, and the code belongs to the client rather than to us. On the cloud line the same source download comes with Storefront Pro; the $49 Storefront plan does not include it.Nothing in the Websites + Marketing documentation describes downloading your site as source — and nothing there rules it out either, which is the honest way to put what we found on Aug 26, 2026. What the Help Center does document runs the other way: pasting your own HTML, CSS and JavaScript into a section of a site that keeps running on GoDaddy’s servers, with site-wide code out of scope. Their own advice when you need more control over your website’s code is to move to their Managed Hosting for WordPress, which is a different product and a migration.Ours
What is left if you stop payingThe folder, and it does not need us. An exported project is files on your disk; it keeps building and keeps serving on any host that runs Node, whatever happens to your subscription or to our company. The site is a thing inside an account. Since the only documented code route runs inward, we could find no documented way for the finished site to come out as files — and the advice for anyone who outgrows the editor is a different product with a different stack. Leaving tends to mean rebuilding.Ours
Taking the booking and the money from one supplier todayOurs is a plan boundary, and here it is straight. Appointments and ordering go live on Storefront Pro — $79 a month or $758 a year — with the bookings stored in the site’s own database and back office. Storefront, $49 a month or $468 a year, builds and previews them. Taking the money is your own Stripe account on either plan: you open it once, and after that we take no percentage of a booking.Theirs works today, and we give them the row. The GoDaddy Help Center documents an online appointments section where customers book time with you or sign up for your events, with several services and times, a price on each, staff members you can add, and a sync to your own calendar. A second article covers taking full or partial payment online through GoDaddy Payments (the United States and Canada only), Square, Poynt, Stripe or PayPal. Two things to know going in: payments there want the Premium plan, and the module holds 80 appointments and 5 categories in total, past bookings included, so a busy diary needs pruning.Theirs
Domain, mailbox and site from one supplierBring your own domain from any registrar: one custom domain is included on both cloud plans, apex or subdomain, with the exact DNS records shown in the workspace and HTTPS issued automatically. It stays registered in your name, which is what makes the rest of this page possible — the site can move and the address does not.Their home ground, and a genuine advantage. GoDaddy is the registrar, and publishing prompts you to connect the domain right there. Worth reading the small print all the same: their own publishing article states that the cost of a domain name is separate from the cost of hosting — so one bill means one vendor, not one line item.Theirs

What GoDaddy Website Builder is shaped for

Written from their side of the table. These are good reasons not to move.

  • 01You need the site to take a booking, an order or a payment in the near term, from one supplier. Theirs does that today with the card processing attached; ours needs Storefront Pro for the module and a Stripe account of your own for the money.
  • 02Your domain, your mailbox and your website all come from GoDaddy today, and collapsing three suppliers into one is worth more to you than owning the code.
  • 03You want a support phone number to call at three in the morning. Support here is email — and the site itself does not depend on us answering, because on Storefront Pro the source comes out as a folder you or any developer can run.

When we are the better answer

Move when the sentence “I would like to take my website with me” has to mean something.

  • 01You are handing a site to a client. At the end of the job they get a folder of Next.js source, not a login to somebody else’s platform.
  • 02You want the operating parts — ordering, reservations, a class timetable, an order tracker, quote requests — in the box and writing into your own back office, rather than a section that hands the job to OpenTable or ChowNow.
  • 03The site has to outlive the tool that built it, your subscription, and us.

Plain about the fit

Which buyer this suits

Two things are worth settling before you pay. If the site has to take a booking and the card from one supplier with nothing wired up by hand, their appointments section does that today; ours runs on Storefront Pro — $79 a month or $758 a year — with a Stripe account you open yourself, one evening, once, after which we take no percentage of a booking. If you want a phone number that answers at three in the morning, buy from a supplier that publishes one; support here is email, and the site itself does not depend on us picking up, because the source comes out as a folder. For everybody else, here is the other side of that trade: 40 industry starting points that open as working multi-page sites, 600 industry-and-style combinations that rebuild the layout rather than recolouring it, eleven operating modules writing into your own back office, 29 scroll and cinematic sections, 111 components, two languages on one site, not one percent taken from anything the site sells, and the whole thing as Next.js source you can walk away with.

Questions people actually ask

Can I export my GoDaddy Website Builder site?

We could find no page in GoDaddy’s own documentation describing an export of a Websites + Marketing site as files or as source, and none saying it is impossible either — that was the state of it on Aug 26, 2026. What the Help Center does document is the opposite direction: adding your own HTML, CSS and JavaScript into a section of a site that keeps running on their servers, with site-wide code out of scope. For a definitive answer about your own account, ask them. On our side it is not a question you have to ask: LocalSite Studio writes the site into a folder, and the folder is yours.

What exactly does LocalSite Studio hand over?

The whole codebase as a Next.js project: pages, styles, scripts and images, in a folder you can open, build and host yourself, plus the database and back office when the site stores orders, bookings or enquiries. It is a one-time purchase rather than a subscription, and the exported code belongs to the client. Nothing in the folder needs a Naratake account to keep running.

Can Naratake take orders and bookings the way the starting points suggest?

On the right plan, yes — and here is exactly where the line falls. The 40 industry starting points are built with the structure for ordering, reservations, appointments by staff member and time slot, class sign-ups, quote requests and property listings, and the records land in the site’s own back office. On Storefront Pro those run on the published site. On the $49 Storefront plan you can build and preview them, but they do not go live. The card is your own Stripe account either way, because we have not built one-click onboarding — that is one evening of setup, once, against a percentage of every order for as long as the site is up.

Look at the export before you spend anything

Build something, export it, open the folder, and see whether it is really a project you would hand to a developer. That is the one thing here nobody else on this page offers. LocalSite Studio is a one-time purchase; the pricing page carries the current figure and what the license unlocks.
