Starting point

A local news website built at newspaper scale

The deepest starting point in the catalogue by a wide margin: the website builder wires five content types to one another before a local publisher writes a word. Stories carry a flag, a standfirst, a byline reference and a section reference as structured fields, not as bold text.

A front page is composed, not sorted by date

Eleven separate bands make up the home page — two leads, a briefs strip, card rows, a grid, the running files, the reporters, the section list — which is what a front page is: an editor’s judgement about what goes where. The stories collection defines ten fields including a flag, a standfirst, a photo credit, a byline that points at a reporter and a file that points at a running story. Twenty-four sample articles, six reporters and seven sections are already wired together, and the editorial desk in the back office tracks who is writing what.

What the sample site comes with

Five content types with 48 sample entries between them, eleven front-page bands, an archive, a running-file page, a corrections page, a tips page with a four-question FAQ, an editorial desk, and six pages.

Anything on that list that takes something from a visitor or reads from a live schedule — a form, a booking, a coupon code, a subscribe box, a class timetable, a listing fed by a collection — goes online with Storefront Pro. Storefront publishes the rest of the page exactly as you built it; where this template gives one of those a page of its own, that page is the one that waits for the upgrade.

What is in scope, and what stays in your own systems

No subscriptions, no paywall, no metered access, no newsletter send and no comments. Photo credits are a field you fill; nothing here clears rights for you, and there is no wire-service ingest.

Every count and price on this page was read out of the template itself rather than written by hand, which is why the numbers match the site you actually get.

Questions people actually ask

What does filing a story to a running file do?

It puts every instalment on one page, in order. Three files ship — the arena deal, the water report and Route 9 — each with the date it was opened and a line saying where it stands, and the arena page gathers the stories that point at it rather than being edited by hand each time another one runs. The byline field works the same way: it points at one of six reporter records, so a byline is a person with a beat, a portrait and a page of their own.
